Manchester United supervisor Jose Mourinho says now that Anthony Martial is “substantially closer to being the best player” that he “might want him to remain” at the club.
The France striker’s operator asserted the previous summer that Martial needed to leave the Old Trafford club.
His agreement runs out next summer and United have the choice to expand it by another season.
“I know the club needs him particularly to remain, so ideally he will remain,” said Mourinho.
He had scored 11 goals in 45 appearances in the ongoing season, passed up a place in France’s 2018 World Cup-winning squad.
He has four goals in his last four games for United, having begun each match.
“One thing is that he’s a gifted player that everyone knows he is – since he was in Monaco, everyone knows he was a skilled player,” included Mourinho.
“Something else is, a skilled player with consistency and comprehension of what a football coordinate is in the globality.
“In this way, when you achieve that level or when you are nearly achieving that level, it’s the point at which you turn into a player – what I say, a best player.
“Since one thing is top ability, another is top player.
“In this way, when he is currently significantly closer to being a best player, clearly I might want him to remain.”
